The Name of the Son of God

Do you know that the real name of the Saviour is not Jesus? Do you know that the letter "J" is only about 500 hundred years old? At about the time the letter "J" was invented the Hebrew letter called "Yad" was being transliterated into two directions: one leading to "I" and another leading to "J".The King James Version of the Bible in 1611 spelled the name Iesus not Jesus. It is really disheartening to note that for centuries we have been calling the wrong name--the very name that is supposed to be key to our salvation.

There are people who will not mind your calling them with a wrong name. I am one of those people. I will not mind if you call me Paul, Paolo, or Pabs or my real name Pablo. This is not the case with other people. There are people who consider it as insult. It really depends on the owner not the caller of the name. That is why we are very careful about names in our communication especially in writing because mistakes can offend the recipient.

What about the saviour? The saviour said tell the good news to the world in His name. Do you think He will be pleased by the way we change His Hebrew name into the popular name we have now? Is this not an expression of disdain or rejection of His words? Try misspelling your password if the computer will allow you. Of course, the Father and the Son are not computers but they said their names are the keys to our salvation. Can you open your door with a twisted key? We cannot open the gates of heaven by using a distorted key.

If we are afraid to offend the human recipients of our communication, the more we must be careful not to offend our creator who said call on my name for your salvation. We should use the name in Hebrew when we pray.
